Chef Hermann Suhs

Owner of Hermann’s European Café, Chef’s Deli, Opa’s Butcher Shop, and Hermann’s Hotel, Chef Hermann Suhs resides in Cadillac, Michigan where he operates each of his establishments.

Suhs (pronounced Seuss) was born and raised near Vienna, Austria and spent five years as an apprentice to learn his trade.  He first learned European and Viennese pastries and later apprenticed at the famous Hotel Sacher in Vienna with Europe’s finest Master Chefs.

From Vienna, Suhs cooked his way around the world and earned his Master Chef certificate along the way in Sweden.  He served as the Executive Chef at Hotel Anna Purna in Nepal and also as a personal chef to the King of Nepal.  He has worked in Thailand and in the islands of the Caribbean, giving his international dishes a rare authenticity.

Since coming to the United States in 1978, Suhs has worked at Innisbrook Resort in Florida, was the Executive Chef at Traverse City, Michigan’s Grand Traverse Resort and as Executive Chef at Hawk's Cay Resort in the Florida Keys where the dining room received AAA Three Diamond distinction during his tenure.

Suhs opened Hermann's European Cafe in 1985.  The restaurant has been featured in many publications such as Ford Times, Michigan Living, West Michigan Magazine, USA Weekend Review and the Detroit News.  The restaurant has also earned a Three Star rating from Mobil Travel Guide, a Silver Spoon and a Golden Fork Award.

Suhs credits his grandmother with his passion for food and his wife, Martha, with much of his success.  His motto is "You're only as good as your last meal."  For more information, visit www.chefhermann.com
