North Vs South Challenge
"Iron Chef" Showdown
Professional Chef Hot Food Competition and Tasting

Saturday, April 26, 2008
Noon to 3 p.m.

Four teams representing the SOUTH, being from food service facilities or restaurants south of US-10, versus four teams from NORTH of US-10 shall compete.   Michigan’s finest chefs will be competing for your vote as #1.

Teams may use a Michigan wine and/or beer in their food preparation. (encouraged) Teams will select up to two Michigan wines and a Michigan beer that compliment their food entry.

Complimenting wines and beers will be available at displays along the corridor, on the patio or under an adjacent tent (weather dictating).  Information will be available on various pairings that have been recommended by competing teams and winery or brewery personnel.

The competing teams will be judged by a combination of the public vote and three designated judges: The winning total of votes for North teams and South teams shall determine NORTH vs. SOUTH WINNER. A plaque to hang at Shanty Creek shall note the Event, Date & Winner - listing the two winning teams.

VOTING:

Public  - A $25 donation entitles an individual to eight (8) chits, each good for one food sampling or one wine tasting or one beer tasting.  The public may use them as they choose; tasting all food items, all wine tasting or all beer tasting; or any combination thereof.   Eye appeal will help determine those food entries earning your vote.  Individuals may purchase more chits (in increments of 8 for $25  or 4 for $15).  Upon departure, cast your vote for your top three (3) food entrée selections, and (optional) your top wine and beer selection. 

TICKETS - can be purchased on the day of the Event at Shanty Creek. Begin with 8 tickets, buy as many more as you wish.

Judging - Guest judges will be selected in advance from the Michigan Culinary industry, having professional expertise.  Neutral Honorary Judges may also be selected, representing the Agriculture industry, Beer or Wine industry, or having celebrity status.  Each judge shall vote for their top three (3) selections.  Their vote shall be weighted equally with the “public’s choice” top three vote getters to determine a North/South team winner.

Public: Dinner on your own Saturday evening.  No formal food events.

This event shall provide “entertainment” during an auditorium seating dinner Sunday night.  This event will be a face-off between the top North & South teams from Saturday’s competition, and shall be a major part of the fundraising activities for Challenge Mountain.

Ticket Cost is $100 per person and includes a four course dinner served by Shanty Creek, plus various Michigan wines & beers to be served.  In addition, guests can select a vodka martini or other before dinner drink featuring fine Michigan vodka or liquor product.  Also, an appropriate after dinner drink featuring Michigan product will be offered.
